NATIONAL SAFE ROUTES “BIKE TO SCHOOL”
MAY 2018 IN WILLOW GLEN
Stakeholders for a Safe Green Village is sponsoring and organizing our annual National Center for Safe Routes to School “Bike to School Day” this May 2018. Co-sponsors include Willow Glen Neighborhood Association – WGNA and other groups. Through the year, and as part of the celebrations, students at our elementary schools receive bicycles, helmets, and razor scooters.
On Wednesday 02 May, team mascots will appear at Gardner Academy, including “Q” of San Jose Earthquakes, “Gigante“ of San Francisco Giants/ San Jose Giants, and “Stomper” of Oakland Athletics. Area students and families are invited to participate, including giveways.
IVITATION TO THE EATHQUAKES GAME: Several students will be receiving free tickets and invited on the field for kickoff of the June 9th game — San Jose Earthquakes vs. Los Angeles Football Club — at Avaya Stadium, San Jose, CA.
Seasonally, every year, Stakeholders SGV and WGNA promote the Bike to School Day in the spring, and Walk to School in the autumn. Look for us again next October 2018, too.
This national event is organized locally by Stakeholders for a Safe Green Village [Facebook] in partnership with the National Center for Safe Routes to School [Facebook]. Willow Glen Neighborhood Association – WGNA [Facebook] is a regular co-sponsor.
Participating schools for the Willow Glen events include:
Willow Glen Elementary; River Glen School K-8; Ernesto Galarza Elementary; Hammer Montessori Elementary; Gardner Academy. Other area schools have included Washington Elementary, Sacred Heart Nativity, Blackford Elementary, Schallenberger Elementary, Saint Christopher, etc.
As part of the “Bike to School” activities, students at our elementary schools receive bicycles, helmets, and razor scooters throughout the year.
On Thursday 11 October 2017, students, parents, and teachers met together at the Bank of America Parking Lot on Lincoln Avenue. In celebrating “Walk to School Day”, we all came togehter for a morning reception and then went to our respective schools.
ABOUT THE WALK & BIKE TO SCHOOL PROGRAM
Join children & adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking & biking:
- Encouraging a chid’s next stage of independence
- Physical activity
- Teaching safe pedestrian & bicycling skills to children
- Awareness of how walkable & bikable community improvements can be made

- Reducing traffic congestion, pollution, and speed near schools

A FUNDRAISER & FIESTA for AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS include the National Safe Routes to School “WALK & BIKE to SCHOOL” program at WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (San Jose).
JOIN THE RAFFLE! Two students will win a Trek (brand) bicycle as part of the National Center for Safe Routes to School‘s “Bike to School” program, locally promoted by Stakeholders for a Safe Green Village (a.ka.a. Stakeholders SGV).
